General Questions

A 15 minute free consultation is the best place. Contact me using the secure email form or through the book now that takes you to my secure booking page. In this consultation you can ask questions and if either of us decides we are not a good fit, I will be happy to help you find a therapist that is. If we decide to work together, I will send you detailed policy information to review before our first session.

If you are unhappy with the direction of your life, if you are wondering if there is more for you, if you desire to be healthier and happier and are willing to learn and to work on change, then therapy might be for you.

Therapy with me is relaxed, casual, and informative, designed to empower you to take charge of your life. I believe that it is important to understand ourselves and will share education, information and explain things as we go along. I use a messy blend of various therapeutic modalities to match where you are at and what we are working on. I want to provide a safe place for you to bring all your beliefs, doubts, hurts, hopes and questions. Together we will move forward.

Virtual or teletherapy is just as good for most people as in person however far more convenient. No rushing to get to an appointment or finding a babysitter – you simply need a smart phone, laptop or tablet that has a camera and microphone, an internet connection and a comfortable, quiet, private place for your session. Sessions are offered through a secure connection and are not recorded. We would meet, and talk just like we would in person. Virtual therapy sessions are not for everyone and if you would like help finding a therapist that does in person sessions, I am happy to help.

Short answer is that it is up to you how long you attend therapy. The first session is a lot of me asking you questions so that I can get a good picture of you and your life. I will also want to hear about what brings you to therapy. We then make a plan about how we will work together. When you reach your goal, you are done. It is important, I believe, for you to live your life and to practice what you have learned. Remember, it is not unusual for people  to return every now and again to therapy when things happen in their life.

The biggest difference, besides the increased education and training, between these is that a Registered Social worker or a Registered Psychotherapist are regulated. This means that there are strict guidelines they have to follow and they can lose their certification if they do not follow the rules of their regulating body. Coaching is not regulated and so there are no clear guidelines as to how they practice. Coaches are not qualified to work on significant life issues such as trauma only therapists are. Coaches are great for helping you set goals, make a plan and follow through with tasks.  Therapists can provide coaching however coaches cannot provide therapy.

As a Registered Social worker, there are rules that I must follow to protect client information. I take your privacy very seriously and use a secure program for appointment bookings and patient charts as well as a secure email. No one else has access to these programs. The only time I would share your information, without your permission in writing would be if you are at risk of hurting yourself, hurting someone else or a if a child is at risk.  Privacy and limits of confidentiality are outlined in detail and will be sent to you prior to our first session and you will be given an opportunity to ask questions.

Fees & Payments

My Fee: An individual session is 50 minutes and the cost is $130.00 (CAD).

You can pay by etransfer, credit card, cash or cheque and the full fee is due at the time of the appointment.
You are responsible for the full fee and we will not have another session if you have an outstanding balance. There may be additional fees for forms or letters that you might request.

Ontario Health Insurance (OHIP) does not cover the cost of Registered Social Workers, however some employer/private insurance plans do. Please check your benefits to see if they cover services of a Registered Social Worker and what your limit might be. You will be issued a receipt when the full payment is made for the session. You can submit this receipt to your insurance provider for reimbursement. If you are not covered you may be able to write this off on your income tax as a medical expense – please speak to a tax advisor about this.

At this time, I am able to do some direct billing with some insurance plans; however I cannot confirm your eligibility. Please remember you are ultimately responsible for the full fee for the session, even if your insurance does not cover the full amount.

This appointment time has been set aside for you. If you need to change or cancel your appointment you can do this, without contacting me, through the on line booking portal (Jane) at no cost, however you need to do this 48 hours in advance of your appointment. You will be billed for late canceled appointments and missed appointments. Please note the on line booking portal will not allow you to cancel the appointment yourself if it is short notice – you will need to contact me directly to cancel. I do understand that there are circumstances in life that may prevent you from attending your appointment, which you have no control over, please let me know if this is the case. A copy of the detailed policy will be sent to your prior to your first session.
